Video 01 - Your Coach - Mark McClure

There are 16 video modules in this Goal Creation Maps course – covering almost 2 hours and 46 minutes of material.

I’d like to take a few minutes to introduce myself, as I'll be your coach and guide at GoalCreationMaps.com. My name is Mark McClure. I was born in Belfast, in Northern Ireland. My previous professional role has been as an IT engineer -- over 20 years now, although I've moved on to a recent new role1.

I've lived in Tokyo, Japan since 1994 -- so I'm pretty familiar with the term ‘corporate samurai’, or at least the foreign version of it. And along the way I have achieved the Cisco CCIE certification. If you don't know what that is, it's pretty much the IT equivalent of the MBA, in some IT circles at any rate. That was a big goal for me and I'm proud of achieving it – at the fourth attempt.

While I was working for a financial services corporation in Japan, I asked for (at the end of a big project) and received, a one-month sabbatical. I used that to work on personal development -- my personal development. I spent a lot of time reading and came across this gentleman, Brian Tracy. I strongly admire his work. In particular, this quotation:

“Success equals goals and all else is commentary.”

[01:16] Actually, I have a love-hate relationship with this quote. But on the whole I think it is very sensible and there's a lot of wisdom behind it.

During my period of reflection I checked out ‘life coaching’. I was more interested in coaching myself than in becoming a coach but such was my enthusiasm for what I could do by making changes using a coaching approach and mentoring support system, that I enrolled with icoachacademy.com (ICA). They’re an Australian-based virtual coaching organization (at least they started out from Australia). I became certified after about one and a half years of studying with them while still in my day job.

Changing the Game

I've termed my particular style of coaching as “change the game”. That's probably one of the reasons why you're here. You have a game, or an element of your current game, that you want to change. And you're looking for some help in doing that.

[02:28] On the icoachacademy.com homepage scroll down the left-hand side and you can see ‘graduate testimonials’. I participated on a teleseminar call that’s still available as a downloadable MP3. It was about coaching at the ICA and how it helped people. I contributed from the background of self-coaching and how that helped my career progress.

As I mentioned at the start, I recently moved into a new role as an “Internet business owner”. And I can tell you that the transition from being an employee to that of being a business owner is not easy. It's simple, but it's not easy. So I have used the services of a mentor -- someone who has already done that and got there, “big time”. And I have also worked with some coaches to help me build the structures that will support my own journey. That's what I’m also aiming to do here for you.

My main hobby is running -- for relaxation purposes these days, not competition. I think it's a wonderful sport even though I don't run quite as fast as I used to. I'm in my mid forties and happily married with a family. This little lady here is ‘Kuri’. She's a four years old American cocker spaniel.

OK, that's it for now. I'll see you inside the course.
